First aid and advanced first aid for dogs is not specialized knowledge reserved for veterinarians –
it begins with the handler. Whether family dog, hunting dog, or service dog: in an emergency, the first minutes often determine life and operational capability. Anyone who works with or hunts with their dog bears the responsibility to be able to act medically. Fundamentals of K9 emergency care should therefore be standard knowledge for civilians, hunters, and service dog handlers. Because in a critical situation, a dog relies on exactly one person – its handler.
